The AAP Welcomes 25 New Jayhawks to the University of Kansas
On January 4th, our new Jayhawks arrived on campus to move into their new homes on Daisy Hill. Students arrived from China, Vietnam, Nigeria, Indonesia, Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and India. Orientation leaders helped the students move into their rooms with a linen pack of necessities and guided them around their room to make sure they understood how to use the thermostat and to find their resident advisor’s room. In the evening, all students met each other for the first time and had a welcome dinner.
The AAP staff greeted students on January 5th during the Welcome Breakfast. Students learned their orientation group name and met their orientation leaders who led them throughout the entire two-week orientation of KU services workshops, group gatherings, orientation check-in sessions, and evening events.
Provost Neeli Bendapudi welcomed all new international students during the Opening Ceremony and Call of Nations. Provost Neeli was a former international KU student and she gave advice about what it is like to be a student on campus and gave student’s confidence about the value they bring as international students to KU and to their classrooms.
We hosted a basketball watch party at the AAP Clubhouse. Students enjoyed typical watch party foods, pizza and chicken wings, and learned more about the rules of basketball.
Throughout the ten-day orientation, students learned about their AAP program, took their English and math placement exams and registered for classes.
And, we also had time to have LOTs of fun!
